The Mohawk

So I leave one Saturday morning to go pick some tomatoes at a farm and a couple hours later I come back and my son has a mohawk. It kind of grew on me after a couple of days, and I must admit he did look pretty cute. His three-year-old attitude definitely fits well with the mohawk image:)

Spencer the starving artist

Spencer and I went to Michaels one dreary morning and replenished the art/craft drawer with some water paints, glitter (Daddy loved that:), stickers, glue (that Spencer so cleverly opened and squeezed the whole bottle out while I left the room for two seconds). That was also the week I got strep throat (for the first time in my life) so some new art supplies was much needed to briefly entertain Spencer while I tried to "get better." Penicillin is a great thing!

Maddie and Spencer

Spencer has a friend Maddie that he absolutely adores. They were friends from about six months old and love to have play dates together. I also had a good friend growing up that was a boy. It really brings back memories when I watch Maddie and Spencer of all the times Beau and I spent at each others house and staying close friends throughout our school years.

Spencer and friends

Spencer and one of his many parties with his "friends." Actually, I think they were pretending to sleep... Bucky, doggie and Spidy and all of his books and blankets and pillow. I wish he would play "sleep" more often at nap time:)

Mini Vacation in Minnesota with the Peterson Family

In August, we spent some time in Minnesota with Jason's family. We enjoyed the Minnesota State Fair for the first time...eating lots of food of course (we didn't find the chocolate covered bacon that was rumored to be there this year) and cruising through some of the barns to see the cows and horses.

Much to Jason's excitement, we went to the Science Museum of MN and experienced the world of Star Wars. They had a huge exhibit there along with live characters, which we got some pictures with. Spencer was in aw of Darth Vader, and we practically followed him around...as did everyone else...it wasn't too difficult to find the big guy in the black suit and mask. Spencer spent a big chunk of time wearing his (second) cousin's (Parrish) Darth Vader helmet/mask and making the Darth breathing sound. So when he got to see him in person in was quite a surprise.

We also spent a day at the gargantuan Mall of America. We didn't really shop just let the kids enjoy the Nicklelodeon theme park. Mira rode the big roller coasters of course and tried a really scary, fast one that she almost didn't ride, but when she did, she wanted to go on it again. Spencer loved the bumper cars of course and did that a couple of times.

It wasn't too warm while we there but Mira still wanted to swim in the pool. I think one morning it was 62 degrees and she was like a fish. She made two accomplishments while frolicking in the freezing waters....handstands in the water and breathing with the snorkel without freaking out. Spencer wanted nothing to do with the water..."too cold." We tried to get him in one the "warmer" days but it still too cold. He like throwing things in the pool for Mira to dive for.

We really enjoyed our time with Aunt Angie, Uncle Rick, Cousin Parrish and the newest addition to their family Vova, exchange student from the Ukrane. We had a great time Peterson's!! Thanks!!

It's been a long time....

Yes, I know what you all are thinking, the Harrington's blog page has expired and you will never here any news or see pictures of us again!:) Not true, I'm just dragging my feet to get some pictures on here. It's impossible to do it with Mr. Spencer in the vicinity because he will take over "the office" area and then I have a half done blog update, a frustrated little boy and an irritated mom. So, it's best done without curious george here. I am actually alone this weekend! I still have to go to work, but Jason and Spencer spent the weekend in Racine. Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the beautiful fall weather.

"Girls, come here!"

Spencer had a blast with his two cousins Karson (10), Kamille (8) when they stayed with us for a week. The first day they were here he asked all day, "Are they my cousins?" And then it turned into "girls, come here!" or "cousin Karson/Kamille, come play with me." Spencer was no longer the one man band. He was very excited to have his cousins playing other instruments with him. He always had to have the drum of course. Kamille would try and play it, but when he heard her, he was racing to take the stick out of her hand. We took a trip to the zoo where the girls loved the new playground we have there. It's a huge tree with tunnels, a bridge and a couple of slides. It was a little hot that week so one day we went to a park in Middleton that has a "splash/water area." I forgot my camera that day:( We also did the water thing at our house with the little pool and sprinkler. On the last day they were here, we went to the butterfly exhibit at Olbrich Gardens.

Hazel Green Grandma and Grandpa Kruser

Spencer and I made a trip to Hazel Green one afternoon to visit with Grandma and Grandpa Kruser. We brought our little pool and Spencer splashed around in it in the front yard. My parents live along Hwy 80, which is very busy with traffic going to Iowa and Illinois (especially semi trucks and farm tractors), so Spencer was in heaven enjoying all the loud traffic. We also had fun watching the sparrows swooping in and out of their nest to feed the baby birds. They made their nest at the top of some chimes on the front porch.

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

Hi family and friends! We've finally gotten our blog page up and running. I thought this would be a great way for everyone to check in and see what's happening with us since we don't see each other on a daily basis. I'm still in the process of feeling this blog thing out so we'll see how it goes! I also have to learn how to download the pictures from our camera (Jason does it all the time:) to the computer. Hope everyone is doing well and check back at the end of the week for more pictures.
Love,
The Harringtons
